If it were me I'd want a ceiling fan in the older portion of the home as well, certainly if it can be done during other renovations without great effort. An HRV does not provide the same amount of circulation as a ceiling fan does, and without one, warm air will still collect up high; and in the summer a ceiling fan is a quiet and efficient way to provide a cooling sensation.
