You could use Straw bale SIPs on the outside of a shipping container home, but I’m not sure it is your best use of your money or resources. The thing is – SIPS stands for Structural Insulated Panel, so they would effectively make the metal shipping container little more than an insanely heavy and expensive interior vapor barrier, since the panels themselves can be the supporting structure.
Converting shipping containers to homes is an interesting movement but is not as ‘eco’ or ‘green’ as people may think, so if you haven’t started yet read more here first –

But to really set you on the right path I have a few questions – are you talking about starting new or that you already have a shipping container home you want to re-insulate or improve insulation? And where are you building? Find your climate zone here.
