Hydro-Québec's LogisVert Grant Program

To promote the use of energy-efficient appliances and facilitate the energy transition, Hydro-Québec’s major residential financial assistance program offers a range of grants across Quebec: LogisVert. The LogisVert program is open to eligible homeowners, as well as tenants for specific low-income initiatives.

LogisVert centralizes and replaces several older utility schemes, taking over existing efficiency measures while adding modernized funding pathways. This includes up to 19 different grants and discounts for home improvements and electrification, such as solar pool heaters, heat pump dryers, and induction cooktops.

Here’s a complete guide to the financial assistance available through the Hydro-Québec LogisVert grant program. The list of main eligible appliances and home retrofits includes:

  1. Heat Pump: up to $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C
  2. Geothermal Heat Pump: $750 per 1,000 BTU/h
  3. Heat Storage Unit: $15,000 + $1,000 for the installation company
  4. Efficient Pump and Solar Thermal Pool Collectors: $300
  5. Roof Insulation and Caulking work: $1,500
  6. ENERGY STAR® Air Exchanger: only for new buildings
  7. Solar Thermal Collectors for Hot Water: only for new buildings
  8. Induction Cooktop: $250
  9. Heat Pump Dryer: $250
  10. LogisVert program subsidy bonuses: + 5% and 25% stackable incentives

It's time to plan your grant applications

With the LogisVert grant program for home improvements in Quebec, you have a strict 9-month window from the invoicing date of the work to submit your application through the online portal. Pay close attention to the timeline: if you are claiming for multiple upgrades independently, each measure must be submitted within 9 months of its specific invoice date to remain eligible.

Pay close attention to the application procedures, as they differ depending on the type of home renovation you want a grant for. Some grant applications must be submitted directly by the homeowner, while others - such as geothermal installations or heat storage units - must be submitted entirely by the installation company.

Be aware that all eligible work must be completed by a contractor holding a valid license from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ). Furthermore, if you are a contractor or an owner applying for an income-producing property (like a long-term or short-term rental unit), LogisVert financial assistance is considered taxable.

If you want to get a new heat pump installed and submit an application to the LogisVert grant program, we suggest going directly to find an experienced and registered HVAC company in Quebec for a heat pump installation. We'll help you through your project: from identifying the best energy solution for your home, to finding subsidies at the end of the project, replying to your questions and even analyzing your quotes. Don't hesitate, it's free!

Choosing an efficient heat pump for Quebec

Did you know there are low-temperature heat pumps specifically designed for cold climates like in Quebec? While standard heat pumps lose significant capacity as temperatures drop, certified cold-climate models can continue heating efficiently down to -20 °C or lower. Plus, heat pumps provide high-efficiency air conditioning in summer: a perfect two-for-one for our hot and humid summers! Check out our guide to discover the best cold-climate heat pumps for Quebec's climate subsidized by the LogisVert program.

The high-efficiency heat pump grant

The LogisVert program enforces strict eligibility rules for heat pumps. To qualify for any level of financial assistance, the complete system (outdoor compressor and all indoor units) must be brand new and officially ENERGY STAR® certified. Hydro-Québec no longer uses the old NEEP directory for eligibility assessment.

Rebates are calculated transparently based on the system's officially certified heating capacity at -8 °C (not nominal ratings):

  • Standard ENERGY STAR Certified Heat Pumps: Eligible for $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C.
  • ENERGY STAR Cold Climate Certified Heat Pumps: Eligible for $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C, rewarding units engineered to maintain heating capacity in deep winter.

To qualify, the outdoor unit must also feature a minimum rated cooling capacity of 12,000 BTU/h, and the property's primary heating source must be electrical. The complete system per dwelling can consist of:

  • a central air-to-air split-system heat pump (ducted)

Geothermal heating system grants

For your application for a geothermal heat pump grant to be eligible, the installation must be completed and meet the following conditions:

  • One or more geothermal wells must be drilled vertically or horizontally with sufficient exchange surface to meet the heat pump's capacity.
  • The complete system, including the heat pump and indoor units, must meet the following requirements: be new, have been purchased in Quebec, and have been installed in a home that is eligible for the LogisVert grant program.

Eligible work

To be eligible, the geothermal heat pump installation must meet the following requirements:

  • It must be for the complete installation of a geothermal well with a manifold (if there's more than one well) and one or more geothermal heat pumps for heating and cooling purposes.
  • The geothermal heating installation company must be registered in Quebec with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec and hold the appropriate licenses from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ).

The geothermal heating grant can only be claimed once per eligible home. To receive financial assistance from the LogisVert program for a geothermal heat pump, you must have your system installed by an authorized company, as they will be the ones to make the grant application and then they get paid directly.

Amount of financial assistance

Hydro-Québec, with the LogisVert program, offers a subsidy of $750 per 1,000 BTU/h for the purchase and installation of a geothermal heat pump when all Program eligibility requirements are met.

Heat storage unit for economical green heating

What's even better than a heat pump? An efficient heat pump combined with a LogisVert program subsidized heat storage unit! This duo allows you to store energy as heat for later use, especially during peak periods. An effective solution for intelligently electrifying homes.

To receive financial assistance from the LogisVert program for an existing building, you must have a central heat pump combined with a heat storage unit installed by an authorized company, as they will be the ones to make the application. This company could receive $22,000 for the installation of these devices, which is more than the cost difference compared to an ordinary forced-air system. Psst! This means the heat storage unit could potentially cost less than the system usually used!

During the construction of a new home, the installation of an efficient central heat pump, a heat storage unit, and an ENERGY STAR air exchanger allows the construction company to benefit from a subsidy with a total value of $15,000.

Efficient pump and solar thermal collectors for heating pool water

Heating your swimming pool energy-efficiently is possible in Quebec with a LogisVert program grant! The first step is to choose the right pump based on the pool size and preferred temperature. A simple calculation and you're good to go! It's also relevant to add solar thermal collectors for pools to save even more energy. However, you need to choose your hot water solar thermal panels carefully, as there are several different models, and not all are suitable for Quebec's climate.

The installation of these two systems makes you eligible for financial assistance from the LogisVert program, in addition to reducing the costs associated with your pool. You just need to apply on the website to receive the $300 cashback for this measure.

Roof insulation and caulking improvement work

Insulation and caulking help keep heat (or coolness, in summer) inside the home, using less energy for heating and saving money. When you want to renovate an existing building, roof insulation is simpler to carry out than wall insulation, in addition to being essential for good overall insulation. That's why it's included in the LogisVert program.

Check out our article on roof and wall insulation to find out how much insulation you need for good energy performance.

Caulking work, which aims to improve the building's airtightness by reducing air infiltration, is also part of the program's measures. This work must apply to the entire dwelling. The grant available under LogisVert for insulation and caulking combined is $1,500.

Installing an efficient air exchanger

By choosing an ENERGY STAR® certified air exchanger, you'll be eligible for a subsidy from the LogisVert program; however, your new custom home contractor must make the grant application. You'll also need to get a heat pump to qualify as this is a combination deal.

Installing an air exchanger, also called a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or indeed energy recovery ventilator (ERV), allows you to renew indoor air while recovering heat from exhausted air, reducing a home's energy consumption and so energy bills. HRV installation is mandatory in new homes.

Find an HRV for your project in our product directory.

Solar water heater for domestic hot water

Solar water heaters with thermal collectors produce domestic hot water using free solar energy from the sun. They can cover a large portion of the water consumed in a residence, about 40% on average, but they must be combined with an electric water heater to meet the rest of the needs.

Solar water heaters are included in the measures subsidized by the LogisVert program for new homes. However, they must be combined with other systems: a heat storage unit, a central heat pump, and an ENERGY STAR® air exchanger. If you get all these different qualifying components, your new home construction contractor can apply for you.

Buying an induction cooktop with a grant

Thanks to hydroelectricity produced in Quebec, using an electric cooktop is significantly more environmentally friendly than a natural gas cooktop. However, there are several types of electric cooktops: coil, ceramic radiant, and induction.

It's the induction cooktop that offers the best energy performance. That's why the LogisVert program makes induction cooktops eligible for $250 in grants when purchasing them, provided they have at least 4 induction elements and a forced-convection oven. Just one note of caution from someone with elderly relatives - induction cooktops and stoves are not suitable for using by or near those with a pacemaker!

Heat pump clothes dryer

Heat pump dryers are the most energy-efficient appliances for drying clothes. They are also known as heat pump tumble dryers and are promising alternatives to traditional dryers. They use heat pump technology to extract moisture from the air inside the dryer, then reuse this heat to continue the drying process.

Heat pump dryers save a lot of energy, not only because they consume less, but also because they don't have ventilation ducts, which limits heat loss from the home.

Their upfront cost is higher, but the LogisVert program offers a $250 grant to encourage you to choose one of these.

LogisVert program grant bonuses

The LogisVert program offers special financial incentives to optimize your upgrades. A **25% bonus** is available for participants registered with Hilo Services. Furthermore, a **5% multiple-measure bonus** can be stacked on top if you combine more than one qualifying energy-efficient improvement within the same financial aid profile. Consolidating your building envelope upgrades or appliance switch-outs within the application window is a highly effective way to maximize your cash back.

Note that stacking rules are tightly enforced to prevent overfunding: you cannot claim LogisVert financial assistance for a piece of equipment (such as a heat pump) if you have already received funding for that exact unit through another program, such as Quebec's Rénoclimat or the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) scheme.
