About
Since our inception, we have strived to be the lowest cost producer of premium quality veneer in North America. We continue to follow that original vision.
Coastland is a privately owned BC company and is well established in the local community. We started in 1988 with the construction of the Nanaimo veneer manufacturing facility and has been expanding steadily ever since.
Committed to continuous improvement, we added a second production line in 2000, and a third line in 2013. At Coastland we remain on the leading edge of technology. We continue to invest in our drying facilities, log yards, and barge loading facilities. We invest to meet the needs of our customers, adhere to rigorous standards, and ensure the safety of our team.

Continuous improvement and ongoing investment has allowed us to provide a consistent and reliable supply to our customers. We will to continue to invest, improve, and grow while maintaining the same dependable service and quality product we have for over 25 years.
Environmental mission and strategy (ESG)
Starting in the forest, and throughout the entire value chain, we focus on environmental sustainability.
Sustainable management begins when we purchase our raw material and continues throughout the entire supply chain to the end customer. Our products are certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) which validates our sustainable management practices.
Coastland takes great pride in our utilization practices and our ability to process a full spectrum of grades and sizes. We can efficiently manufacture small logs and are able to utilize material that may be considered waste at other manufacturing facilities.
Once at our facility, we get the most out of a log. Bark is utilized to generate our own power, replacing natural gas, for the conditioning process. Peeled veneer and cores are sold to the end customer while trim ends and waste wood are chipped and sold for pulp or energy production. Even the water used in the conditioning process is screened and re-used. No fibre is spared at Coastland!
Our veneer and cores are produces with the natural beauty and strength of wood without any chemicals. Our Environmental Management Plan ensures we responsibly manage any potential hazards associated with handling fuel and oils.
We are always finding new ways to reduce our footprint and are now working with BC Hydro on their PowerSmart program to help reduce energy consumption to further reduce our impact on the environment.
