FSC® Mix Panels Available at Time of Order
In 1999, Columbia’s Klamath Falls, Oregon, plant began producing its plywood using logs harvested from Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certified timberlands. [LIC # FSC-C017500.] Today, all of Columbia’s plywood and veneer mills hold FSC chain of custody certified by NEPCON, an independent, third party, non-governmental organization dedicated to helping companies conform to FSC standards. Columbia also partners with the Rainforest Alliance which has the published aims of working to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. By buying products with an FSC label you are supporting the growth of responsible forest management.
PureBond® A Breath of Fresh Thinking
In 2006, Columbia produced its first soy based plywood assembly and now 13 years later it has manufactured its 100 millionth panel demonstrating formaldehyde-free, veneer core panel production as a trusted solution. Columbia panels have been specified into some of the most rigorous green building standards including LEED® and Living Building Challenge® projects. With 3 LEED® AP staff, Columbia is also positioned to provide the after sales support needed for success with project submittals, confirmation of panel traits. Columbia has also worked through retail channels to educate consumers about the benefits of eliminating a known human carcinogen (formaldehyde) from decorative interior panel products, enabling use in place of alternatives which do not contain added formaldehyde, helping to drive demand through fabricators for cabinets, paneling, built ins with “green” credentials.
Meinan Lathes for the World’s Finest Innerply Veneers
Columbia mills have invested in cutting-edge, Meinan lathes from Japan which provide a superior, smooth and supple peel for hardwood plywood inner ply constructions which lay flatter, are smoother with less core telegraphing over the competition.
We call this innovation MPX® for Meinan Peeled X [cross] bands, positioning Columbia as the premier domestic supplier in terms of panel quality, variety and volume.
Transparent Approach, Third Party Verified Emissions
Columbia was among the first plywood manufacturers to disclose product ingredients in support of the chemical transparency movement. Today, Columbia domestic, veneer core panels are Declare® registered. Columbia production is also compliant with California and US EPA rules regarding formaldehyde emissions through a third party certification body. All Columbia production is TSCA Title VI compliant for formaldehyde emissions at or below .05 ppm.
Sustainable Industry in Rural Areas
Columbia mills are located in rural areas, helping to insure rural jobs and livelihoods. Columbia’s Foundation provides support to local employees and communities including those of Hearst, ON; Rutherglen, ON; Kitchener, ON, St. Casimir, QC and Sainte-Thérèse, QC.
The “Forest Capital of Canada” designation for 2015 was awarded to The Town Hearst – Constance Lake First Nations – Mattice-Val Côte. This much respected annual recognition was jointly determined by the Canadian Forestry Association and the Canadian Institute of Forestry.
