Conversion of a duplex into a single-family home

The project’s challenge was to create four bright spacious bedrooms on the second floor within the narrow 20′ building width. The ground floor saw the replacement of bearing walls by an exposed engineered wood structure of beams and columns to create a wide open bright and colorful space tha includes the kitchen, dining area, living area and piano corner. New large windows in the rear wall allow for a continuity between the open interior and the back yard spaces. The front facade retains the original elements but with new energy efficient windows and doors. The second floor was reworked to provide bright yet intimate private spaces including four bedrooms with large closets two bathrooms, office area, a walk-in closet and skylights.
