I want to buy a prefab home in Ontario, where can I see Canadian made prefab house plans and find a builder?
My wife and I are looking to build a 3 bedroom home and are looking into prefabs but have a lot of questions about quality and versatility. I'm hoping to find reputable prefab home builders and looking for a customizable floor plan so we can at least have some involvement in the design process.
Performance is important to us, and it doesn't necessarily need to be a passive house certified pfab house but we would certainly like it to be a higher quality build and more energy efficient that standard tract homes. Any guidance on what to look for in prefab homes would be apreciated.
Check here in our building directory where certainly you can find a reputable prefab home builder in Ontario, and see various floor plans and designs.
The quality of prefabricated and modular houses is far better than decades ago when it was a fledgling industry with a reputable for pretty shoddy workmanship and design. As a industry, modular prefabricate homes has evolved to the point where quality is on par and better than most tract homes in many cases, costs are if anything better than site built houses and they can be built in much less time. So most of the 'downsides' or prefab home construction are now more just outdated myths that will hopefully be dispelled over time.
So look throught the listing to find prefab builders in your area, that link is filtered to only show prefab manufacturers in Ontario only but you can set the market area to show all high quality prefab houses made in Canada to see a wider range that are suitable to the Canadian climate. since they are being shipped to site, it is not that great an issue to ship it a little further and this may give you access to a wider selectrion of house models.
About versatility - when you read company profiles in the directory they should list if they allow for design modifications to their plans.
The new government of Canada recently announced major plans to boost the housing industry, and prefab houses will be a huge part of that, so watch for a lot more modular homes hitting the market, and that should give you a lot more selection and manufacturers to choose from.
