Stefan Mitrovich's path to founding Mafic Design Build was shaped by a genuine curiosity about how buildings perform under real conditions. Degrees in Earth Sciences and Architecture from Montana State University gave him an unusual foundation — the rigor of physical science applied directly to the built environment.
Over 25+ years across residential, commercial, and industrial construction in Montana, Stefan developed a conviction that most buildings leave enormous performance on the table. Homes that are expensive to heat, uncomfortable in winter, and ill-suited to Montana's climate aren't inevitable — they're the result of design and construction that doesn't take building science seriously enough.
Passive House certification gave Stefan the tools to close that gap. Holding both the CPHDC and CPHT — one of very few contractors in the Mountain West certified as both designer and tradesperson — Stefan models the energy performance and builds to that model in the field. No handoff between consultant and contractor. No gap between the design and what gets built.
Mafic Design Build was founded to bring that integrated expertise to clients who want their home built right: airtight, continuously insulated, durable, and third-party verified to perform.
