L&S Engineers began in 1955, when Ev Rice and Bob Luhn founded Rice and Luhn, a mechanical consulting engineering firm. In 1986, two young engineers, Dick Luhn and Dale Shafer, joined leadership team, and Ev retired (it is rumored the next day!). This resulted in the engineering firm, Luhn Shafer. In 1990, the firm added electrical engineering and Bob retired, and for a short period of time was known as Luhn Shafer Wanless. In 1991, firm was branded L&S Engineering Associates, a mechanical electrical and plumbing consulting engineering firm. In 2001, Brad and Jessica joined the leadership, with Dick retiring in 2005 and Dale in 2017. Our offices are located in the historic Commission Building in downtown Spokane. The L&S Engineers’ team covers all aspects of mechanical and plumbing engineering and project management. Our firm focuses on providing engineering services for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and piping, sustainable and LEED, energy modeling, HVAC and lighting needs. Our clients and partners include the region’s leading architects, contractors, and facility owners and managers, delivering engineering expertise on schools, health care facilities, multi-family housing, and retirement facilities.
