The partners of Lawrence and Gómez Architects have been involved in the greening of our profession throughout their careers. During college, Juana worked for a grass roots weatherization and solar company in inner city New Haven, then taught at the Alternative Energy Training Center, a solar vocational school in Colorado. She holds certifications in LEED for Homes and from the Passive House Institute. Juana joined the firm that became Lawrence and Gómez Architects after working at the acclaimed Klipp Architects in Denver. At that office, she oversaw projects such as Boulder Valley's K-8 schools and housing at Adams State College. While at Klipp she also worked on several health care facilities and the Denver Central Library with Michael Graves. Previously, Juana had worked for Anthony Pellecchia on high-end residential and hospitality projects in Aspen, Nevada, Denver, and Telluride. After living and traveling in Latin America, then going to college at Yale and enjoying the East Coast, Juana came to the Rocky Mountain West to experience this exotic, wide open landscape that she now calls home. Juana made a living as a framing carpenter for three years, building many residential and solar projects. She then studied for her master's in architecture at the University of Colorado at Denver. The recipient of several travel and research grants, Juana has studied the architecture of Eastern Europe, Maya ruins, and urban forms in Havana. Other creative grants funded her set designs for collaboration with dance theater. Juana has been adjunct faculty at the University of Colorado where she teaches design studio, drawing, graphics, presentation techniques, and color theory.
