Jean-Gabriel Neukomm, AIA, founding principle of JG Neukomm Architecture, has designed successful and innovative projects for a range of luxury residential, institutional, hospitality, urban planning, and retail projects for over 25 years. In the arc of his education, Neukomm moved from a rigorous liberal arts background to the architecture degree program at Princeton University. His Bachelor of Arts is in Philosophy from Haverford College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society, and received the competitive Charles Schwartz Thesis award. Upon graduation, he worked for world-renowned Eisenman Architects, chiefly on the Cincinnati School of Architecture. From there, Neukomm completed the Master of Architecture program at Princeton University, where he did coursework with Liz Diller and the late Enric Miralles. His work is in the permanent collection at Princeton. Some of Neukomm’s early professional work began as executive partnerships working on homes for A-listers such as Calvin Klein and hotelier Ian Schrager, as well as the powerhouse Core Club in midtown. At ease equally as architect and interior designer, Neukomm’s designs result in homes well-calibrated to the nuances of townhouse living, a complex specialty in the world of New York real estate. Of note: a spectacular West Village townhouse residence for famed creative director Fabien Baron (as seen in WSJ Magazine) which features extensive renovations to the facades and landmarked elements, as well as a comprehensive and carefully detailed interior renovation. Other significant townhouse renovations include a full restoration and significant rooftop and underground expansions to a Landmarked West Village federal style home on MacDougal Street for a leading British figure in the arts; as well as a complete restructuring, renovation, and interior design of a 15,000 square foot mansion off Park Avenue which includes major structural alterations, new elevator and stair cores. The historic restoration and gut renovation of a well-known firehouse in the West Village is testament to his ability to treat historical properties with an engaging contemporary touch, and to get complex projects passed through challenging local boards. On the development side, Neukomm has also worked with Aberdeen townhomes on a number of Manhattan-based properties with an eye to re-sale. Key to Neukomm’s success is a well-honed understanding of the complexities of renovating landmarked structures on a technical, historic, and aesthetic front, as well as being able to marshal a deep bench of industry professionals with whom he has collaborated over the past two decades.
