Thomas Bitnar, FAIA, CKA, has had forty two years of extensive experience in architecture and urban design, has been an architecture educator for twenty-one years and is a twenty-three-year member of the American Institute of Architects. His background encompasses a broad range of projects in Europe and the United States. Bitnar was 2012 president of AIA Continental Europe and 2013-2014 section director of Eastern Europe. In 1990, he opened Bitnar Architects, with projects in Prague, New York, and, since 1997, the Pacific Northwest. Prior to that, Thomas Bitnar worked for Hellmuth, Obata, Kassabaum, Perkins & Will, Spector Group. Before moving to New York, he worked with offices in Munich and Prague. Thomas Bitnar's work illustrates his typological versatility and his ability to elevate the standards of architectural design through a blend of architecture traditions and a distinctly modernist approach. In Bozeman, Montana, Bitnar is working on a fifty-acre urban plan for Spring Creek Development and continued expansion of the $100 million Village Downtown development, as well as the Platinum Ridge and Cattail condominium developments. In 1995/6, he helped establish the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec/TUL. As a visiting professor, he taught at TUL and the Czech Technical University/CVUT in Prague. He has taught architecture design studios at Montana State University, and is Adjunct Associate Professor of North Carolina State University, teaching architecture design at NCSU’s Prague Institute. In 2011, Thomas became Docent (Associate Professor in the U.S.) of the Technical University of Brno, Czech Republic. Thomas is a member of the Czech Chamber of Architects/CKA and the American Institute of Architects. He is a LEED Green Associate and member of and the U.S. Green Building Council.
