The first step John Koester took was to not assume anything. A card-carrying mason, construction company owner and seasoned waterproofer, he knew the challenges created by incidental moisture. And he wasn’t content to settle for available products that weren’t up to the challenge. The problem? By design or common installation practice, they weren’t gravity compatible—the path for drainage wasn’t at the lowest point in the system. So he got to work. John drew up designs for floor edging and control cavity that create a predictable, gravity-aided path for water to drain, and built the machines to make them. He manufactured the products at night in his Twin Cities garage, and sold them from his truck during the day at job sites throughout the metro area. The rest is three decades+ of history. Builders quickly gravitated to the foolproof products that eliminated customer complaints and kept crews hard at work. MTIdry expanded first to a factory in southern Minnesota and then to Cresco, Iowa, and built out the product line to take on moisture management around windows and inside single-width walls. MTIdry has consulted on thousands of unique moisture management systems over those years, diagnosing problems and creating custom-tailored solutions. We’ve authored dozens of articles on moisture management. We maintain an in-house digital drawing department and provide in-depth technical support and advice on best practices. We’re good at what we do, because it’s the only thing we do. And we’ll always stay true to what got us here in the first place: coming up with better moisture management ideas to make your projects the best they can be.
