Can an HRV be installed in a condo?

...ventilation point outside away from sources of smell and where it is possible to install. So, I would start with Strata and ask them. Then I would suggest checking if a HRV or ERV is best to install for your area. Hope that helps!

Building a Honka log “pretty good house” planning - thoughts on hvac, ventilation and roof

...ventilation with an ERV (I totally got sold on Zehnder) I have my doubts if it's overkill or "pointless" / can't find information using it in a log house. For cooling, it'd be a mini split system. Mitsubishi probably. Finally, I'm thinking of a metallic roof with thermobuilt insulation. Did consider a green roof but I'...

How do you add an Air Exchanger to a house with Hot Water Heat?

...ventilation system to remove airborne contaminants and humidity, while providing fresh air for occupants. I would also assume you may have a somewhat older home as new homes now would likely be required to have ventilation equipment to meet regional building codes. There is one excellent solution for retrofitting HRVs ...

Best small ventilation HRV or ERV for a camper van or tiny house?

...Ventilation in tiny houses seems to be often overlooked for some reason, though it’s not too surprising to find them absent in a camper van. How big is your van, and does it have a kitchen and bathroom?  In our opinion, they really should incorporate some sort of mechanical ventilation to provide fresh air for occupant...

Can you use a Lunos E2 HRV System to circulate air between two floors?

Am wanting some fans that work in pairs to circulate air between my basement and main floor. Have a long 1100 sq ft house from the 60s (you know the one). Hoping for something cheaper than a full HRV/ERV system or reducting the basement. Using a Lunos ductless air exchanger  (or ProductAir ductless ERVs) to circulate a...

What is the best ERV on the market ?

...Ventilation and Energy Recovery Ventilation), but it seems you’ve done that. If not, see here first – Which is best for a home, and ERV or HRV? Zehnder is widely regarded at the top of the line home HRV / ERV, and is often a choice for high performance builds like LEED, or Passive House where often no expense is spared...

Can you preheat ERV inlet air?

Have you heard of the option to preheat the ERV/HRV inlet air with a dedicated tube that runs through a heated slab? Similar to a geothermal heat exchanger concept. Yes, you can run what is called a ‘ground loop’ below grade to warm or cool incoming air to your ERV or HRV depending on the season. This is seen sometimes...

What are your thoughts about incorporating natural ventilation techniques into the heating/cooling/ventilation design of a house?

Is there modeling software available to see where operable windows would work best? Perhaps adding ventilation passages between floors for air movement? Where to place vent...

Lunos HRV - where can I buy them and get advice?

...ventilation systems are a great alternative to fully ducted HRVs with centralized cores. Particularly for renovation projects when you want to add fresh air but not rip walls apart for running ducts, all you need to provide to unit is a low voltage wire, see more here - Lunos Ductless Air Exchanger DIY installation vid...

Is an HRV or ERV system best in a cold climate?

We're getting ready to build "as near as possible to Passive House spec without it costing a dime extra overall" house next year in Northern Minnesota as we will then be fitting PV solar panels to bring it to zero net energy once we fully assessed the true energy requirements over a year or two. As the house location i...

Are air purifiers a good option for keeping my apartment air cleaner?

I find the air in my apartment stale and I don't much like the smell. I don't think it's cooking smells and I don't smoke, I just think its the whole building (3 stories, 6 units and the hallway smells the same). I'm wondering if air purifiers really do work, thanks for any advice.  In the absence of an HRV, the most e...

How do you install a ground loop for an HRV?

...ventilation core where incoming air is pre-heated or pre-cooled by exhaust air. No heating or cooling coil is present, you are simply running a fan, and a heat exchange takes place in the core. Read more  here about choosing between an HRV and ERV here. To soup that up a little, some builders will install a ground loop...

Can you help trouble shoot my Lunos HRV e2 system in my tiny home?

The LED light came on indicating a filter change, though my builder told me that was optional. Do I need a new filter or can I wash and reuse the existing one? Any tips for getting to a unit that's 12' high no place to put a ladder to reach it? (It's above my bed, which is built into the floor and bolted to the wall) A...
