Where should I put an air barrier on a log home insulated from the outside only?

...rockwool (batten) right against the wood beams on the outside. Then an air barrier- WRB (as sealed as possible), then another layer of continuous rockwool board, followed by an air gap with diagonal furrings. Then we will attach vertical wood siding. Is this a good plan? Is the location for the air barrier right? To cl...

Fill gap between wood stud wall and closed cell foam or fill the stud bays?

...rockwool insulation and the closed cell spray foam.  My concern with trying to fill the void will also likely have air gaps and the rockwool gets pretty beaten up when stuffing it between the studs and the uneven closed cell foam.  Morevoer, the alighment with the rockwool and the studs quickly goes out of alignment le...

Can you use Comfortboard mineral wool insulation as a skirt on monolithic slab?

...Rockwool comfortboard mineral wool insulation at foundation skirting. We did just that on our 2015 demo house project, and the company wasn’t  a whole lot more helpful at the time for us either. Slab on grade foundation insulation is not a market they seem interested in competing in. They told us it *should* be fine, a...

What is the best way to do a cottage reno adding an insulation blanket?

...Rockwool insulation as it doesn’t trap moisture. That’s a much safer way. Mineral wool is sort of a ‘foolproof’ insulation in that way, as moisture moves right through it and causes no harm.  2 inches of Rockwool you could attach with strapping, and if you wanted to go the thicker foam route then |I’d look at Thermalwa...

How do can I insulate an existing basement floor from 1906?

Old house; basement is only 21% of total under house footage. 79% is crawl space. Basement Never painted. Walls go up 4 ft to a 2ft wide ledge and then the old stone foundation. 1 side is an exterior wall; 3 sides are crawl space beyond the stone.  A lot of heat is lost through uninsulated basement floors, so good idea...

In your Edelweiss house you use 2x6 studs. Why not use 2x4 studs and add 2" rigid on the inside?

What do you think of insulated T Studs in Canada?

...Rockwool rigid insulation boards (photo below). They were surprisingly easy to build, we just ripped the insulation panels on a table saw and just pressure fit them in place. What is the best way to insulate a 2x8 wall?

...Rockwool comes in batt insulation as well as rigid, so  I wouldn’t be cutting it up to fit anywhere, they should have the sizes you need. Rockwool, (formerly known as Roxul),  is very permeable to moisture so while it isn’t the cheapest, it is the most foolproof as it won’t ever trap moisture like some foam insulation ...
