Just finished demo on 100 year old house. With the removal of wall panels and the ancient insulation aka 100-years-of-mold, the house is pretty drafty. I want to test for radon to see if I should build in a radon mitigation system before encapsulating the crawlspace- but wondering if I'll get reliable results with so m...

I'm a tenant, not a homeowner, so I can't tear down drywall and reinsulate but winter is coming and drafts are already getting in. Is there anything I can do to prevent that without upsetting my landlord? The wall I'm concerned about is the only exterior wall in the apartment, it has one window and one door. And it's i...

I live in Calgary, Alberta. My house is a 1940s bungalow with a second storey added in 1988. Someone recommended removing the sheathing and d...

Can you use a vapour retarder paint on the ceiling instead of using a poly vapour barrier?

...Renovations? If you are simply concerned because it is an older house without a vapour barrier then it would in fact be a good solution. But often with much older houses, there are several layers of oil paint from previous generations that act very much as a vapour barrier. But an additional layer wouldn’t do any harm.
