Their backyard was pretty much unused space, and their main wish was a dedicated spot for their basketball-loving family. The focus was a custom half-court designed to fit their yard's specific layout. They were hands-on with the design, choosing a striking deep blue and orange surface and adding their favorite team's logo right at center court.
But a court on its own can feel stark. So, to integrate it, we framed it with low-maintenance native grasses and plants that could handle a stray ball or two. We also put in a modern, clean-lined fence for privacy and some simple, low-voltage lighting for evening games.
Off to one side, we created a small patio with a built-in seating area and a fire pit. It gives them a comfortable spot to watch the kids play or just hang out. The final touch was a simple paver path connecting the new court and seating area back to their main patio.
Now, it’s the first place they head after school and on weekends. It completely changed the feel of their backyard, turning it from a patch of grass into the real heart of their home.
