SMA | Stephen Moser Architects is an architecture and design studio with a portfolio of innovative residences, civic-private projects, and ideas-generating competitions. The focus in all our projects is on making beautiful, coherent spaces that respond to the uniqueness of place and reflect how people live and work. We seek a clarity of vision: a relationship between exterior and interior that values simplicity, coherency, and openness. We value collaboration within our studio and work closely with our clients to help them successfully realize their vision. As a full-service architecture and design firm, we take our projects from conceptual beginning through the completion of construction and beyond. Residential projects include a house in the Colorado Rockies carved into the side of a mountain; a net-zero beach house and art studio on Shelter Island that reinterpret the saltbox cottage; an extensive renovation of a 1920s stone home, which was featured in Luxe Magazine (Greater New York); and a restoration of the historic, mid-century Landsberg House on Long Island, for which SMA received an AIA award. Civic-private work includes a master plan for NEW LEAF, a historic restaurant and its environs in NYC’s Fort Tryon Park; a comprehensive study for SummerStage in Central Park; and ART IN THE YARD, an annual outdoor art exhibit in Larchmont, NY. SMA’s competitions include MALI, a new contemporary art wing for the Lima (Peru) Art Museum; UNBUILD THE WALL, an award-winning design reimagining a one-mile segment of the US/Mexico border as an open park; RING OF REFLECTION, a memorial in Sandy Hook, Connecticut for the children and educators who lost their lives in 2012.
