Iowa State University MacKay Hall ARCHITECTURE For the BBS architectural staff, the first and most important step in any project – no matter its size – is to work with the owner to establish their goals for the space. Upon establishing project goals, BBS’s architectural staff goes to work preparing a Needs Program, working toward a functional design, conducting internal design critiques and ultimately presenting the owner a space to meet their established goals. Whether the project involves new space or adaptive reuse, the BBS architectural staff collaborates with all involved parties, and utilizes the latest in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to help owners and clients visualize their use of the final product. VIEW PROJECTS INTERIOR DESIGN Recognizing that the design of the interior environment can dramatically affect business culture, employee productivity, workplace satisfaction and student engagement in education, the BBS design staff approaches each project with a collaborative and consensus-oriented design process. We assemble the right team, ask the right questions, and - most importantly - we listen to the client. We strive to fully understand the needs, goals, and aspirations of each client so they can reap the maximum benefit of our design solution.Changing technology, insights into ergonomics, and a growing environmental consciousness all play a role in thoughtful analysis and an attempt to improve work processes, employee interaction, workspace flexibility, efficiency and comfort. MASTER PLANNING Master planning is a field that creates a new paradigm for design professionals, changing the way we think about what we create and how it relates to the environment. This design collaboration allows the talented staff at BBS to develop creative solutions with each client, from the first stages of planning to the final details of implementation. Our planning staff operates as facilitators to lead the way in creating environmentally-sound and beautiful settings for a greater work/life balance. We recognize the dramatic effect our work can have on clients’ attitudes toward nature and resulting land stewardship. We promote this balance in our design by providing appropriate, innovative and cost-effective solutions on a wide variety of projects. FACILITY ASSESSMENT In order to understand the limitations and opportunities within an existing facility it is often helpful to complete a thorough assessment of the buildings structural, plumbing, electrical, and ventilation systems. An evaluation of a buildings current shell (roof, windows/doors, exterior finish materials, waterproofing, etc.) can assist with determining future maintenance plans and life expectancy. The BBS team of architects and engineers can assist with this type of evaluation and provide a report and drawing diagrams to assist with current or future decisions for building
