Shelly is a registered architect in Texas and Vermont, a LEED AP, a Certified Passive House Consultant, and a Regenerative Practitioner. She is currently a professor at Middlebury College and serves on the Board of the Vermont Green Building Network. Her work through the AIA Houston Committee on the Environment, Passive House Alliance, and Houston Regional Resilience Collaborative established her as a go to leader on sustainability and social justice efforts in Houston. As an architect, Shelly spearheaded the first project in Texas to seek Living Building Challenge Certification. She is a frequent presenter on sustainable design, including recent appearances at the DOE Better Building Summit, the Living Future unConference, the North American Passive House Conference, and the International Forum on Urbanism. Shelly further extended her reach as an Assistant Professor in the Prairie View A&M University School of Architecture where she taught regenerative, net zero and public interest design. Under her guidance, PVAMU won two Grand Awards in the Department of Energy Race to Zero Competition and a COTE Top 10 Award.
