Humming Hill Farm

House Exterior

Inspired by farm houses in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, this coach house is an exercise in architectural simplification. The original house actually consisted of a triple garage with a farm hand's apartment above.
Only the structure of the home remains the same, none of the original layout has been preserved, all interior divisions have been redesigned.
The interior is finished with polished concrete floors, white oak, terrazzo tiles, black granite, cast concrete sinks and weathered steel for a modern industrial look.

The vegetable garden is supplied with a multi-zone programmable drip system; runoff water is managed by drainage trenches around the building; downspouts collect rainwater and inside.
