Can you build a water-to-Air Heat Pump with a large storage tank and well water?

Instead of installing vertical or horizontal loops for a ground source heat pump could you pull water (I'm on a well) into a large tank and use a water-to-air heat pump. I live in a cold climate so in the winter the water will be much warmer than the air.

In the summer the system could be reversed to heat the water in the tank before being sent into the hot water system. And in the winter, water for hot water could by-pass this tank when the incoming water is warmer then the tank.
