About

Our family’s involvement in the British Columbia (BC) Forest Industry traces back from the present owners to their great-great-grandfather, who, in the 1860s, pursued a logging career on BC’s West Coast.

The entrepreneurial spirit embedded throughout The Teal-Jones Group of companies started more than 70 years ago when Jack Jones, founder of the original company, established a one-man cedar roofing mill after his return from World War II.

Now wholly owned by sons Tom and Dick Jones, the company prides itself as the largest privately held forest products company operating on the West Coast of Canada.

Harvesting operations currently span Southern Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley and Canyon areas. The company holds Tree Farm Licenses, Timber Licences, and Forest Licences, which provide much of the raw fiber necessary to maintain the mills’ operational requirements. This entitlement entrenches The Teal-Jones Group as one of the largest private forestry firms on Canada’s West Coast.

The Teal-Jones Group is committed to providing a healthy and safe workplace for all personnel by establishing and maintaining safe work practices through adequate procedures and direction.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

The Teal-Jones Group is committed to the ongoing health and sustainability of our forests, our environment, and our industry’s future.

Teal-Jones’ forestry operations voluntarily meet Canada’s leading national standard for sustainable forest management through the Canadian Standards Association Sustainable Forest Management Z809 Standard.  An important part of this standard is the systematic approach to corporate management which requires continual improvement.  The system is based on the on-going adaptive management process of management commitment; planning; implementation and operation; checking and management review.

Teal-Jones’ wood products are certified under the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification Chain of Custody System.

These standards provide for independent third-party verification, assuring the public of sustainable forest management planning and practices based upon benchmarks derived from internationally-recognized, ongoing and long term, intergovernmental processes and guidelines.
