Step 2 of the 2015, the New Source Performance Standard (NSPS) for New Residential Wood Heaters came into effect May 15, 2020 and requires that the best wood burning fireplace heaters must be certified to discharge particulate matter within an average of 2.5 g/hr. The EPA’s new single burn rate wood stove and fireplace category created an opportunity for RSF’s engineers to design a superior kind of wood burning fireplace that would operate continuously in a “sweet spot” which produces both minimal emissions, ample heat and a visually striking fire.
