Green Energy Doors Open 2013
Green Energy Doors Open 2013 is an annual, single-day showcase of the province-wide green energy economy.
For over a decade MEC has been "greening" their buildings – making design and materials decisions based on environmental considerations. The Ottawa and Winnipeg stores were the first and second retail buildings in Canada to comply with Canada's C2000 Green Building Standard – a Natural Resources Canada program that acknowledges buildings that achieve a 50% reduction in energy consumption over conventional structures. With every new store MEC builds or leases, the aim is to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impacts.
MEC Burlington is opening their doors to give free Green Building Tours. Take a 30 minute tour of the store with a member from the Environmental Integrity Committee. They will stop at key points in the store. Take a climb to the roof to check out MEC's solar panels.
